Cynthia grew up in Birmingham, AL. After studying art abroad in Lacoste, France, she moved to New York City where she got her MFA from the School of Visual Arts. After living in NYC for eight years, she moved to Seagrove Beach, FL and finally returned her family to Mountain Brook in 2018.

Falling within the pool of figurative abstraction, Cynthia’s paintings draw inspiration from the surrounding landscape, creating new botanicals and detailed moments through the unexpected combinations of leaves, petals and the imaginary worlds in between. When she first started showing her work in NYC in 2000, The New York Times described her paintings as “an amalgam of Color Field painting, Indian miniature ornamentation and Victoria’s Secret Fantasy”.  While once living in the sparse flora of a city, she is now surrounded by the explosive landscape of the South and her paintings reflect the fullness. Much like life, she finds painting to be a constant process of creating, balancing and finding the harmony between all of the different moments.

Cynthia has been the subject of solo and group exhibitions both domestically and internationally. She lives in Birmingham, Alabama with her three children and three dogs.
